We work in a high-energy, focused, small-team environment, and believe in applying first principle thinking, data driven decision making, continuous learning, systematic planning to deliver results and achieving our goals.Job DescriptionPrimary Function of Position:The Ion--- endoluminal system is Intuitive's new robotic platform for minimally invasive biopsy in the peripheral lung, with an initial goal of improving the early diagnosis of lung cancer. This position will play a key technical role during the development of a novel new surgical robot system. The engineer will be expected to work with an incredibly talented team to design and build the embedded software platform.--- The successful candidate must excel in a high-energy small team environment, be able to drive to solutions from rough requirements, and have a commitment to high product quality.--- A strong sense of shared responsibility and shared reward is required. -Roles and Responsibilities:- - -Design and development of product-focused, rock-solid, C++ software in a heterogeneous, multi-processor SoC/FPGA/real-time-embedded environment -- - -Develop software for embedded Linux/QNX devices: - -

  • Design and implement multi-threaded, distributed system C++ applications -
  • Design and implement code for GPUs using CUDA.- - -Contribute broadly to many areas of software development, including but not limited to: - -
    • Extension of current frameworks to new processors and operating systems -
    • Development of research prototypes used to evaluate new product concepts -
    • Distributed communication subsystem development -- - - -Work on a cross functional team to develop technical specifications and evaluate design trade-offs - specifically in platform software -- - - -Clinical study support, and participation in product demonstrations, as requested- - - -Contribute through design, V&V and transfer to manufacturing activitiesQualificationsSkill/Job Requirements:- - - -Master's degree in Electrical, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field. -- - - -Minimum, 5+ years industry experience developing and supporting embedded systems.- - - -Passionate about developing cross-platform, object-oriented C++ code (11 and higher).- - - -Experience developing for embedded Linux devices using C++.- - -Strong ability to isolate and debug embedded hardware and software problems.- - - -Experience working on product-focused designs in a team environment.- - - -Excellent communication skills.- - - -A desire to deliver a quality and innovative product that improves many people's lives.- - - -Experience unit testing.- - - -Willingness to work in Linux and Windows environments - whatever it takes.- - - -Strong intuition for, and interest in, designing systems for testability and scalability.Additional Pluses: - -- - - -Experience with Python3 and bash scripts.- - - -Experience with Nvidia GPU, working knowledge of CUDA.- - - -Understanding of camera sensor and video signal standards.- - - -Experience with I2C, SPI and 1 wire protocol.- - - -Experience with additional embedded operating systems, such as QNX.- - - -Understanding of commonly used messaging and RPC frameworks and their associated tradeoffs for use in distributed embedded systems.- - -Demonstrated experience in and comfort with all phases of the product development lifecycle including design, implementation, debug, verification, validation, and transfer to manufacturing.- - -Experience designing software products in an FDA or other regulated industry or for mission critical applications; comfortable with concepts of design input, design output, traceability, risk analysis, and mitigations.Due to the nature of our business and the role, please note that Intuitive and/or your customer(s) may require that you show current proof of vaccination against certain diseases including COVID-19. - Details can vary by role.Intuitive is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
