We are looking for a passionate, talented and inventive Embedded Software Development Engineer to join our team.

As an Embedded Software Development Engineer, you will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary team to conceive, design, and develop innovative consumer products. You must be responsive, flexible, and able to succeed within a collaborative peer environment. You will need to be able to work efficiently and effectively in a fun, fast-paced, and dynamic team.

You will help develop, execute and maintain software and tools to bring performance algorithms to a wide range of products. You should have a combination of knowledge of development, debugging, testing, solid understanding of operating systems and software stacks, as well as knowledge of object-oriented design principles. You should have a track record of solid and maintainable software design and successful production software delivery.

Key job responsibilities

* Write code and develop software libraries, frameworks, and tools required to drive algorithm development, implementation, debug and evaluation.
* Work with Applied Scientists in implementing the algorithms on target platforms.
* Develop sophisticated tools for data collection and annotation, debugging pipeline and automation of data processing and analysis.
* Develop drivers for the team's sensor development boards.
* Design automated system tests and document the performance of algorithms under different conditions.

A day in the life

The primary day-to-day focus of the role is to work on software solutions to deliver end-to-end algorithms to our customers. This will include integration of algorithms on devices, development of software tools and frameworks, as well as code optimization and review. The scope of the role can also extend beyond the immediate team and include contributing to larger cross-team initiatives.

About the team

We are the Sensor algorithms team responsible for developing sensing algorithms across a wide range of Amazon devices.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

* 4+ years of professional software development experience
* 3+ years of programming experience with at least one software programming language
* 2+ years of experience contributing to the system design or architecture (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
* Experience as a mentor, tech lead OR leading an engineering team
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar technical field, or equivalent software experience.
* 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer delivering C/C++ embedded software.
* 3+ years of experience developing object-oriented C++ software.
* 3+ years of experience with Python.
* Experience working at both the low-level (driver/HAL/OS) software stack as well as at the API and application layers of software.
* Experience with system-level software architecture design and implementation.
* Experience implementing machine learning and / or signal processing algorithms on embedded devices.
* Excellent communication, collaboration, reporting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Master's degree Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar technical field or equivalent software experience
* Experience with GUI application design and frameworks (Qt C++ or Python framework preferred).
* Experience with data collection and analysis using Python or R.
* Experience with scripting (bash, Python, R, Lua, Perl, etc.)
* Experience with signal processing and statistics.
* Experience with fixed-point algorithm implementation and porting.
* Experience with testing methodologies and frameworks, automated test, regression test.
* Knowledge of Microcontrollers, SoC, device drivers, hardware bring up, ARM processors, performance optimization, boot loading, and hardware/software integration.
* Experience with device bring-up and test.
* Experience designing and implementing C++ libraries and frameworks.
* Deal well with ambiguous/undefined problems; ability to think abstractly.
* Experience with RTOS (FreeRTOS preferred).
* Experience writing code to the Linux operating system, specifically an in-depth understanding of the kernel, power management, scheduler, memory management, inter-process communication, and driver model
* Experience influencing software engineering best practices within your team.
