Job Description:

The Concept Assembly Team works with the many product and R&D teams at Facebook Reality Labs to rapidly build, scale, and maintain prototype hardware. We provide faster and more informed learnings on prototype builds ranging from a dozen to several hundred, and we then maintain that prototype hardware for internal use. It is important that we provide experience from past builds across all product lines to inform future designs for existing and emerging products and technologies. As the Prototype FW/SW Technician, you would act as the liaison between our team and the cross functional partners for whom we build, repair, and modify prototypes. In this role, you will review test plans and scripts related to prototype hardware and implement creative solutions when problems arise. You must be able to work independently, while also seeking guidance and feedback from peers and customers. A constant eye for how information can be better communicated and work done more efficiently should be the driving motivation behind all the work you take on.

Prototype FW/SW QA - Concept Assembly Responsibilities:

  • Ability to Participate in the drafting, review and approval of project documents, user needs, and product objectives to support your ability to advise on and create test plans alongside engineering partners
  • Coordinate closely with multidisciplinary teams on product design, and offer inputs on the testability of functional elements and product designs
  • Flash, calibrate, and log data following SOPs for testing equipment
  • Write test scripts in Python on android devices with Android Device Bridge (ADB)
  • Communication skills required for documentation and live discussion with Engineering teams. 1. Quality variations/anomalies 2. Solution proposals and repairs 3. Assembly/operating instructions (SOPs)
  • Perform post-mortem activities after a project is completed and "close the loop" by implementing lessons learned on following projects
  • Perform delicate rework of devices, SOPs for a team of technicians and aid in teaching and reviewing their work
  • Investigate first article issues, reproducing and testing bugs, and creating and managing bug reports
  • Research test tools, methodologies, and trends to improve the capabilities of our team and lab space, and implement improvements to existing practices and processes

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • A 2 or 4 years degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field
    • At least 2 years' experience executing, troubleshooting and debugging test scripts and deploying new software builds to prototype electronic devices
    • At least 2 years' experience working with prototype electro-mechanical assembly projects
    • Proficient in Python
    • Experience scripting with Bash or similar
    • Experience to software scripts and utilize basic commands using the command line of Linux, Mac, and PC platforms as well as in mobile IOS/Android
    • Effective communication skills and should be clear and concise by default

      Preferred Qualifications:
      • Proficient in C/C++
      • Experience troubleshooting and assembling consumer electronic devices
      • Hobbyist level experience with Arduino/Raspberry Pi etc.
      • Hobbyist level experience with iOS/Android app development
      • Hobbyist level experience with 3D printers/CNC machines
      • Experience with Android Device Bridge (ADB) and mobile (iOS/Android) systems
