Together, were working at the pace of change on diagnostic tools that address the worlds biggest health challenges, driven by knowing that behind every test there is a patient waiting.Learn about the Danaher Business System which makes everything possible.The Research Associate is an entry-level position in the Biotechnology Infectious Disease group developing in vitro diagnostic (IVD) assays in an FDA-QSR and ISO13485 compliant organization. This position is primarily a bench level job focusing on real time PCR and RT-PCR assay and product development. The ideal candidate will have experience in general molecular biology methods. In addition to technical qualifications, the ideal candidate will be highly goal-oriented, able to respond to shifting demands and priorities, and possess excellent oral and written communication skills. The ability to work in a cross-functional team-based environment is a requirement.In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Optimize sample preparation, real time PCR and RT-PCR assays for the GeneXpert platform based on design input requirements.
  • Execute studies based on existing procedures with some guidance and direction.
  • Prepare and purify DNA and RNA for analysis as appropriate.
  • Experimental design, analysis, interpretation and reporting of results, maintaining detailed experimental records.
  • Apply analytical problem-solving skills to reagent and system integration issues to identify critical performance factors.
  • Analyze data using statistical tools such as Microsoft Excel or Minitab. Present data at weekly technical meetings.
  • Maintain detailed experimental records and documents results in a technical report or in a laboratory notebook.
  • Maintain and promote a safe working environment and ensure that all reagents and supplies meet quality control standards
  • Provide input to the project schedule as required by participating in group meetings and providing progress reports.The essential requirements of the job include:
    • BS in relevant field - e.g. Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Chemistry, Biology, Genetics, or related field.
    • Experience performing real time PCR or RT-PCR reactions. Experience performing nucleic acid extraction/purification.
    • Knowledge in handling clinical samples and ability to work in a BSL-2 environment. Knowledge of biological and chemical safety.
    • Proficiency with standard Microsoft computer programs.
