About the job

Buildings and spaces at Google are aspirational. They are the physical embodiment of our culture and inspire our employees to deliver equally ambitious products and services. Our highest priority is to create an amazing environment where Googlers can thrive and be at their best every day.

As Director, Global Design, you will help to build the community and processes that support Google's physical expansion, and shape the Google of tomorrow. The future of how and where work is done will transform radically over the next decade. Buildings and spaces will need to support new ways of working and be able to support and adapt to new experiences, events, and team configurations, as well as provide the social connections Googlers' crave.

In this leadership role, you will be responsible for thought leadership in design at Google, creating unrivalled workplace experiences from the district to the desk and thinking through urban site planning, architecture, placemaking, building, systems, and workplace design with a view towards providing the optimal range of spaces and places for Googlers to do their best work.

You will lead a small but targeted group of design and thought leaders and will be responsible for crafting and communicating Google's vision to a wide range of internal and external audiences. You will also provide leadership for our exceptional teams of architects and designers who bring our buildings and spaces to life.

The Real Estate and Workplace Services (REWS) team creates inspiring spaces and innovative services that bring Google's culture and values to life. We build and maintain all aspects of what keeps our Googley workspaces operating seamlessly across multiple cities and regions globally. We also manage the industry-leading services that help make Google a great place to work -- from how we design healthy and collaborative workspaces, create energizing food experiences, provide convenient transportation and fitness options, to delivering inclusive environments where Google and our employees can thrive.

  • Provide thought leadership, design innovation, and the ability to bring meaningful research to life.
  • Bring forward industry-leading ideas and insightful data in order to guide design-related decisions and offer innovative solutions.
  • Develop Google's evolving workplace strategy, working with REWS stakeholders, UX ,and research teams, leveraging exceptional consulting and industry experts to design and implement Google's future work strategy.
  • Develop, define, and articulate the design vision, values, and strategy for Google's workplace environments, articulating design principles, desired outcomes, and attributes that can provide guidance to extended teams globally and ensuring that Google's core values are embedded in all designs and local creativity is fostered and encouraged.
  • Bring a deep understanding and subject matter expertise to all scales of design and architecture, including systems and technical infrastructure, workplace strategy/experience, interiors, architecture, master planning, and placemaking.
