THE ROLE

Matterport is looking for an experienced hands-on hardware lab manager and technician who can support a wide range of engineering disciplines with a broad set of responsibilities. This person will be instrumental in our product development lifecycle, by managing and building our early stage electro-mechanical prototypes, building test jigs, and executing DOEs. The right candidate will be energetic and able to manage a variety of tasks and projects simultaneously. They'll also be highly organized and able to drive that level of organizational discipline throughout our Engineering team. Matterport is poised for incredible growth and we need someone who can help us scale.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and manage our hardware lab, ensuring safe procedures are followed at all times, tracking equipment, keeping calibrations current, and keeping material stores stocked
  • Manage and stage materials for early-stage prototypes
  • Assemble prototypes
  • Conduct DOEs and assist with product testing using test equipment
  • Help create test instructions for internal and external users
  • Log and report test results
  • Document bugs and issues in JIRA or similar issue tracking system
  • Repair and execute ECOs for PCBAs
  • Build and help design test fixtures and cable assemblies
  • Create assembly instructions for electro-mechanical and cable assemblies

Requirements

  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent PCB rework and soldering skills
  • Skilled with crimping/splicing wire for cable assemblies
  • Ability to read electrical schematics
  • Experience with EE Test equipment, such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, and DMMs
  • Able to perform basic mechanical assembly and disassembly
  • Able to read and interpret schematics, PCB Layouts and Bills of Materials
  • Experience with testing and debugging PCB assemblies and electromechanical systems such as motor assemblies
  • Able to use spreadsheet (excel, google sheets) and presentation software (Powerpoint, Google slides) for data processing and reporting of results
  • Preferred: Basic use of PCB Layout software or 3D CAD for simple tasks or modifications
  • Preferred: Experience with ME or Optical test equipment and skills
  • Preferred: Experience using Linux/Ubuntu
