Senior Assay Development Scientist

Sunnyvale, California, United States

23andMe is looking for a Senior Assay Development Scientist to join our team. You'll work closely with our Product, Engineering, Regulatory and Quality teams to bring new technologies to the consumer market that complement our existing microarray-based products.

What you'll do

  • Investigate novel technologies that can generate actionable health results for customers
  • Develop and execute proof of concept and feasibility studies in collaboration with partner and vendor laboratories
  • Inform the design of validation studies to demonstrate analytical performance of assays
  • Work with product and marketing to understand user needs and market demand
  • Design and optimize assay protocols and automation for high throughput applications in a clinical setting
  • Summarize, present and document study outcomes to key stakeholders
  • Evaluate sample collection devices and methodologies with an eye to accuracy, user comprehension, and ease of use

What you'll bring

  • PhD in Biochemistry or equivalent field
  • 5+ years of post-graduate industry experience in biotechnology
  • Strong skills in molecular biology (including DNA, RNA and protein handling, PCR, qPCR, quantification methods)
  • Strong data analysis skills and knowledge of statistics
  • Familiarity with Python to implement automated data processing, reporting and visualization workflows

Strongly Preferred (optional)

  • Understanding of medical device regulations (21CFR and ISO13485), the FDA submission process, and quality systems
  • Experience developing and launching direct-to-consumer products
  • Familiarity with processing multiple sample types (eg. saliva, blood, tissue)
  • Experience with high-throughput assay development in a production setting
  • Knowledge of human genetics and the methodologies used to establish links between biomarkers and phenotypes
