The Surface software development team is seeking a talented Principal Software Development with a strong background in shipping production Android software on devices.

RESPONSIBILITIES

You will have primary responsibility for curating and maintaining a singular view of the architectures associated with the Surface Duo user experience. In this role you will ensure the consistency of the experience across a range of contributing frameworks, components, applications, etc. that make up the product.

You will have direct exposure to the engineering teams and will engage with them technically to ensure alignment. Further, you will help coordinate and drive workstreams focused on innovating on new product concepts which remaining true to core product fundamentals.

The job is highly dynamic and involves working across various disciplines to successfully deliver the product with the SurfaceDuo experience and quality.

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic:

- A minimum of 12 years of experience in software and/or product development

- Experience designing and directing complex architectures that span multiple technologies and software layers

- BS in Engineering or equivalent experience

- High tolerance to ambiguity and ability make progress in the face of it

- Strong communication skills and ability to work across multiple disciplines and functions (PM, Test, Hardware Engineers, etc.)

Preferred:

- Experience with Android application and shipping Android based products

- Excellent Java design and coding skills

- Experience with extending the Android Framework and extending the API support

- Experience developing Android Open Source Project (AOSP) based products

- Ability to quickly ramp-up on complex and unfamiliar code

- Enthusiastic, motivated, and self-driven

- Some domestic and international travel will be necessary.
