Together, lets help to advance the world of minimally invasive care.Primary Scope of Position:This Sr. Engineering Manager position reports to the New Product Introduction Engineering Director for Da Vinci Single Port (SP) surgical system Instrument and Accessory products. This management role utilizes their in-depth manufacturing, manufacturing equipment technical and design knowledge to lead a multidisciplinary engineering team. This team is responsible for collaborating with design engineering and manufacturing engineering to discover, define, design, develop, and validate new assembly and test equipment. Successful execution of these responsibilities will facilitate the introduction of new products and achievement of quality, capacity, and cost goals for ISIs manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will have experience achieving results through others, managing a wide range of complex project teams, and developing complex manufacturing equipment and automation.Roles andResponsibilities:Technical ExpertiseProven capability to lead diverse teams on mechanical, software, algorithms, human interface and electronics aspects of manufacturing and test equipment. In-depth knowledge of equipment and methods to implement assembly and test processes of complex medical devices. Strong engineering skills with proficiency in assembly equipment design is required. Must have proven ability in assembly process development and integration of equipment to meet process objectives.Proactively evaluates and challenges designs for technical merit, reliability, serviceability and manufacturability working with the manufacturing and design team to realize optimal outcomes.Creates efficient and robust manufacturing assembly line equipment, specifying and/or refining equipment specifications, test requirements and equipment validation efforts throughout the design process.Responsible for the validation, qualification, and documentation of manufacturing equipment and processes leveraging standard qualification approaches (IQ/OQ/DQ/PQ/PPQ).Leadership RequisitesEfficiently plan, manage, and execute projects that enable Intuitive to satisfy rapidly growing demand for SP Instruments & Accessories products.Owns new products during pilot production phase through successful and sustained project launch. This includes driving new product introduction schedules, resolving manufacturability issues, and driving improvements.Provides technical support for failure analysis of discrepant production components, assemblies and field returns. Leads investigations where appropriate.Leads/participates in continuous improvement initiatives focused on material cost reduction, capacity enhancement, and streamlining of supply chain.Mentors and sets project tasks for Equipment and Manufacturing Engineers on their specific project team and on other teams as needed to further company expertise & effectiveness.Establish milestones, support and success criteria for responsible projects. Drive decisions and escalate key issues quickly maintaining stakeholder alignment.Keep the organizations vision and values at the forefront of decision-making and actionSkill/Job Requirements:This role requires active participation to create and refine electro-mechanical components, assemblies, process documentation, tooling and test methods for robotic surgical instruments. The emphasis is on the mechanical design of equipment.The successful candidate will have achieved the following:Minimum BS Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering or similar; advanced degree preferred.Minimum 5 years experience creating and managing high-performing teams, preferably in the development, production, and support of automated equipment for the assembly of mechanical products. Medical device industry experience is a plus.Proven people leadership skills ability to energize and empower a team and unite them in a common goalDemonstrated project leadership and strong communication skills to drive assembly equipment, fixturing, and tooling design from development through implementation.Strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills.Ability to distill complex ideas into a clear vision.Experience in manufacturing and assembly automation strongly desired.Strong foundation in design, fabrication and assembly of complex assemblies with demonstrated knowledge of assembly techniques, test methods including gage R&R analysis, DFx, and lean principles.Strong technical skills in prototyping, tooling development, process engineering, and troubleshooting. References who will validate you as a strong leader, enabler, and possessing a can-do attitude!Comfortable interacting with engineers, management, technicians, product development, planning, purchasing, regulatory, inspection, clinical marketing organizations, Sr. Leadership and suppliers.Excellent cross functional partnership building on behalf of your team and products.CAD expertise and experience managing CAD users, SolidWorks preferred.Ability to travel nationally and internationally. Travel requirements will be approximately 10%.Highly preferred skills & experience:Electromechanical new product development experience preferred.Track record developing high quality, reliable manufacturing equipment.Experience in an ISO 13485, ISO 9001 Strong understanding of NFPA 79, NFPA 70E, and Cal-OSHA safety standards.or medical device manufacturing environment a plus.Medical device experience preferred.Experience with Agile, SAP, JIRA, and/or MKS tuitive is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
