About the job

Google's projects, like our users, span the globe and require managers to keep the big picture in focus while being able to dive into the unique engineering challenges we face daily. As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects using your engineering expertise. You plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project lifecycle. This includes managing project schedules, identifying risks and clearly communicating them to project stakeholders. You're equally at home explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers.

Using your extensive technical and leadership expertise, you manage projects of various size and scope, identifying future opportunities, improving processes and driving the technical directions of your programs.

As a Technical Program Manager, you will be involved in every aspect of strategic and tactical Design and Construction operations for our growing global fleet of Data Centers. You'll partner with managers and plant engineers, as well as our design and construction teams, to develop creative and scalable solutions for smaller scale data center deployments as well as hyper-scale data centers. You will provide leadership and management for the team delivering these large-scale data centers, computer farms, miniclusters, networking, AC power distribution/conversion, and cooling methods at multiple scales.

In this role, you will work cross-functionally to manage base building construction and fit out projects. You will also manage multiple projects in various states of evaluation, design, construction, and handover to operations and across greenfield sites or within live facilities.

Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.

  • Manage a global data center design and construction team and scope related to construction and/or capital improvement projects at the facilities.
  • Develop detailed designs, manage construction, commissioning, close-out and hand-off to operations. Ensure all customer requirements are met.
  • Establish and maintain delivery models and relationships with vendors and contractors, using appropriate metrics and measuring results. Research and implement construction means and methods of data center equipment and facilities.
  • Create a growth plan and be involved in hiring/recruiting of talent in the areas of project management, field engineering, document control, technical writing, etc.
  • Communicate with internal business partners to collect plans, drivers and deadlines for initiating build projects and mobilizing contractors. Create high-level project plans that identify resource needs and critical path.
