Cloud SQL is part of the Google Cloud Platform database area that focuses on Relational Databases such as MySQL. Cloud SQL is a fully-managed database service with simplicity, reliability, durability, and performance at scale.Cloud SQL is looking for an experienced software engineer with extensive background in database availability. Availability is one of the most critical areas for a database product to ensure uninterrupted service for our enterprise customers. In this role, you will define a long term vision and road map, mentor a group of engineers, lead high impact projects, solve open-ended challenges through innovation, and address top customer problems.As the senior staff engineer of database availability, you will be responsible for defining and driving the technical strategy, architecture, and road map to achieve our business goals and achieve availability for databases. This includes high availability, managed replica, performance optimization, reliable connectivity path, and more. Responsibilities Be the thought leader for Cloud SQL's availability area, and help the team to innovate and deliver solutions to offer industry-leading availability service level agreement, which is the most critical area for a database product.Partner with product managers and other leaders to drive product direction and growth.Mentor other engineers, set up design, coding, testing best practices and guidelines, and hold a high quality bar in design reviews, code reviews, and postmortem review.Be the thought leader in managed services in close collaboration with Google Cloud Platform infrastructure, and drive platform wide improvements such as reliability and efficiency. Influence the overall team's culture and collaboration model with other engineering leaders. Qualifications Minimum qualifications:10 years of professional software development experience or 8 years with an advanced degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering.3 years of technical leadership experiences in software development. 3 years of experience in databases technology.Experience with cloud infrastructure and distributed systems. Preferred qualifications:Experience building relational databases such as MySQL, Postgres, SQL Server, and Oracle.Experience building databases high availability features such as SQL Server Always On, Oracle RAC, RDS High Availability Multi-AZ. Experience with designing, building, and supporting highly available cloud Infrastructure products.Experience providing technical direction to a team of engineers.
