Position: -Intuitive Surgical designs and manufactures highly
complex mechanical systems for use in surgery. The Sr. Manager of
Mechanical Engineering is responsible for guiding the exploration,
development, documentation, and verification of new product
designs. - The Sr. Manager of Mechanical Engineer is also
responsible for functional management of a group of Mechanical
Engineers (and other technical personnel) and selects, develops,
and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the
group. -Roles and Responsibilities: - - - - - - - - - - Provide
design engineering team leadership and foster environment that
encourages first principles thinking, creativity, risk taking, and
crisp executiono - - Develop compelling product architectures that
are robust and extensibleo - - Align with cross functional teams to
ensure designs provide value to patients, surgeons, and hospitalso
- - Decipher complex situations and set appropriate priorities to
focus team for successo - - Negotiate with senior management and
internal customers to define/refine product pillars and business
goals
- Manage, coach, and develop a team of high functioning
mechanical engineerso - - Establish team objectives and individual
work goals consistent with overall product development goalso - -
Assign tasks, set priorities, establish metrics, and track
progresso - - Assess employee performance and provide coaching to
improve performance

- Support mechanical engineers in the development of functional
specifications and related risk documents
- Manage drafters, technicians, and other support personnel as
required
- Manage department Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and
drafting/design guidelines - - - - - - - - - Ensure design
engineers follow appropriate design history file guidelines per
regulatory requirements and hold design reviews in accordance with
product development procedures - - - - - - - - - Provide
engineering resources to support Manufacturing, Materials, Test
Engineering, and Service to facilitate transfer of designs
- Provide administrative leadership / control for planning,
staffing, budgeting, and project/program cost
tracking.QualificationsSkill/Job Requirements: - - - - - - - - - -
A selfless leader who inspires trust and commitment within their

- BSME required, MSME or PhD preferred
- Minimum 10 years' experience designing commercial mechanical
products or related education
- Ideal candidate would have taken 3 or more commercial products
through entire design, development, implementation launch
cycle.
- Minimum 4 years' experience leading product development teams
or managing direct reports
- Hands-on engineering manager with proven ability to work well
in a team environment
- Comfortable with all phases of the product development
lifecycle including design, implementation, debug, verification,
qualification, and transfer
- Strong analysis skills, knowledge of CAD, and analysis tools
that drive design excellence
- Detailed knowledge of and experience working with robotic
design components including sensors, motors, and drive trains
preferred
- Strong project management, planning, and change management
skills.
- Medical product experience preferred
- Ability to lead/influence cross functional teams in the design
of complex mechanisms
- Experience designing products in a highly regulated
environment
- Excellent communication (written, verbal), presentation and
documentation skills
- Budgets, project/program cost tracking and other technical
management administrative experience
- Strong people management abilities with ability to ensure team
