We are looking for you to join our team as a Systems Engineering Manager 3 based out of Sunnyvale, CA As a Systems Engineering Manager at Northrop Grumman you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation. Through the use of Model-based Engineering, DevSecOps and Agile practices we continue to evolve how we deliver critical national defense products and capabilities for the warfighter. The Systems Engineering Manager 3 provides leadership of a team of Systems Engineers serving as Engineering Program Leads and is responsible for managing engineering execution and product development through the lifecycle of Launcher delivery milestones for various programs. This role is a dual-hatted role, encompassing both functional management (-50% of time) and execution of program responsibilities including oversight and accountability for the technical performance of assigned programs (-50% of time). The selected individual must be able to make decisions with minimal support and effectively communication and present to executive leadership and customers, to ensure program needs are met.

They will have a track record of strong leadership skills, be an effective communicator and dedicated problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This candidate will demonstrate a broad skill set that is balanced between interpersonal, business, and technical capabilities. They will have an ability to operate in a team environment and collaborate across the sector business areas as required to accomplish the team goals. The candidate will work closely with the directors and managers of other engineering disciplines, program directors and program managers. The ideal candidate will also be able to champion change within the organization, to achieve competitive advantage for the business.

What you'll get to do

  • Lead a distributed, diverse team of Engineering Program Leads in the areas of requirements development and verification, interface definition and design, and modeling, simulation and performance analysis on both machinery and launcher programs
  • Provide leadership and review of proposal efforts (e.g. C101s, ECPs, ROMs, etc.) including preparation of cost estimates, providing proposal inputs, and review of proposal content for both internal and external customers
  • Support department initiatives, forecasting and recruiting, technology roadmap creation, and champion continuous process improvements
  • Staffing and workload forecast; employee inclusion, engagement, mentoring and career development; identification and training of employee skills required to successfully execute on programs; and execution of employee performance review processes for their team
  • Recruiting, sourcing, onboarding, performance management and contract maintenance for contractors working in the business area as required
  • Issue identification/resolution and reporting as well as status reporting up the E&S and program management chains
  • Coordination with Engineering Program Lead, supporting functions and stakeholders, as well as with Program Management, and third-party stakeholders
  • Support and adherence to standard Engineering program execution processes, the oversight of cost, schedule, and technical quality for large system development contracts as well as Engineering performance on large systems integration-type contracts.
  • Functional oversight for a team of Engineering Program Leads of varied disciplines working multiple programs, IRAD initiatives, and new business capture opportunities with strategic importance for large downstream value.Basic Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 14 years of engineering experience; OR a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline with 12 years of engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 9 years of engineering experience
    • US Citizenship with an Active DoD Secret clearance (or higher).
    • Proficiency in all aspects of Systems Engineering processes and procedures with an emphasis on requirements analysis through verification testing for hardware intensive programs.
    • Experience as a Technical Lead, Project/Program Manager, or other demonstrated leadership role related to program execution
    • Experience planning and executing development/production phase of the program, proposals and EVM.
    • Experience in technical problem solving, including decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation and monitoring.
    • Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management as well as, ability to work effectively in a team environment.
    • Basic understanding of the Design, Manufacturing and Test Integration process.Preferred Qualifications:
      • Master's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline (preferred Mechanical or Electrical Engineering)
      • Experience selling off an element/segment/system
      • Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
      • Understanding and knowledge of Agile (SCRUM) techniques and activities Salary Range: $171,000 USD - $256,400 USD

        Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
