Primary Function of Position:The Senior Project Manager is responsible for providing cross-functional project management on behalf of the Services business unit in support of launching new product introductions and executing on key strategic initiatives across the MP (Multi-Port) platform.
The Senior Project Manager serves as the primary liaison between ISI's Engineering teams / Engineering PMO and Services functional teams consisting of Services Product Management, Product Support, Field Service, Technical Support, Customer Success, and Service Operations teams supporting the product. With the development and introduction of new products, the Senior Project Manager develops service strategies, requirements, risks, deliverables, schedules, and leads the cross-functional effort to execute Service Business Unit readiness to the project plan. The Senior Project Manager will tightly align with upstream/downstream business partners supporting a specific Intuitive product line.
The success of the Services Program Management team is mission critical to the success of the worldwide Services business unit. This is where your leadership, hands-on experience supporting global service organizations, fascination with robotics, and your passion for leading change within a complex, fast-paced, highly regulated environment can make a direct impact.
Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide functional, strategic, and tactical leadership to project teams responsible for new product introductions (NPI) on behalf of the Services Business Unit; ensuring appropriate planning, communication, risk mitigation, and business unit readiness in alignment with product development milestones and commercialization target dates.
  • Create and maintain project schedules, resource planning, budgets, and communicate status and risks cross-functionally to global Services Business Unit stakeholders.
  • Integrate with design and engineering teams during product development to drive service requirements upstream, directly influencing product design for robust serviceability and maintainability of ISI products.
  • Ensure that domestic & global service strategies, assumptions, business opportunities are identified, checked & periodically reviewed throughout duration of project execution & initial product launch.
  • Maintain a portfolio of active projects for assigned program, organize and lead design review readiness meetings to Services Executive Management consistent with ISI's product development process.
  • Strong collaboration and communication with internal and external business units (marketing and engineering teams), bridging development processes, approaches, and cultures. Work with partner groups to gain alignment & support to achieve project objectives.
  • Leadership and coordination of budget development, resource planning, organizational design, and strategy to anticipate and ensure readiness for future business needs.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts regarding the project management and product development efforts on behalf of Services Business Unit.
  • Functional Capabilities
    • Product lifecycle knowledge- Able to handle complex tasks. Applies thorough and detailed understanding of best practice engineering techniques, including design for serviceability/maintainability (DFS/DFM), effective approaches to new products or new approaches to existing products.

    • Planning/Execution
      • Ability to communicate effectively - Effective presenter and meeting facilitator, tailoring communication to meet the needs of the audience. Maintains and communicates confidential project information internally, with suppliers, and to larger company audiences.
      • Reality-based projections and status assessments - Proactively seeks and shares information to inform of critical milestones, demonstrating the ability to negotiate and prioritize. Provides early warning of risks and is comfortable speaking up to inform impacted groups and management stakeholders. Ideas are solid and in the context of objectives and constraints.
      • Risk Management and Problem-Solving independence and thoroughness - Independently orchestrates approaches to managing project risks, determining root cause and problem solving on complex, multi-dimensional issues, and determining when proposed solutions are effective. Knows when to bring in other technical subject matter experts for effective risk and problem resolution.
      • Focus - Understands priorities of personal work and that of other groups and uses that knowledge to optimize results. Works well under pressure and milestone-based project deadlines.
      • Effective Interaction - Proactively collaborates across multiple functional groups and is comfortable going outside the core Services team to seek information relevant to completion.Skills/Job Requirements:
        • Minimum B.S. Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical, Industrial, or Systems Engineering desired.
        • Project management technical skills - creating and maintaining project plans, schedules, project risk registers, budgeting, resource plans using desktop or enterprise project management tools and software. Leading teams and facilitating team meetings, organizing and tracking issues and actions items.
        • Experience with enterprise productivity tools such as Smarsheet, JIRA, Confluence and PLM tools such as Polarion, Oracle Agile.
        • Certification in Project Management, e.g. PMP desired.
        • Proven record of new product introductions globally acting as project leader on behalf of Field Service/Service Operations. Experience working in support of a Field Service and/or Technical Support organization.
        • Minimum 6-10 years' experience managing the introduction and operational readiness of complex capital equipment (medical devices and/or robotics desired), including mechanical, electrical, and software elements containing a large number of parts, subassemblies, SKUs. Knowledge of supply chain processes a plus.
        • Demonstrated experience influencing product development on behalf of service. Familiarity with Design For Serviceability/Maintenance (DFS/DFM) principles and practices.
        • Experience working in a regulated environment desired; familiar with or prior application of Medical Device Regulations - FDA Quality System Regulation, EU Medical Device Regulation, ISO standards governing medical devices is preferred.
        • Pragmatic, organized and detailed. Has a big capacity to both think and do, strong on detail and highly organized.
        • Ability to promote ideas persuasively, influence others, and build and maintain effective professional relationships with internal partners and business leaders
        • An independent thinker willing and able to express and support a point of view.
        • Demonstrated ability to think innovatively, connecting the dots when others cannot. Able to make the leap from information to insight.
        • Has a quick intelligence, is fast on their feet and quickly responds to issues and questions.
        • Can organize, summarize, clarify and communicate ideas simply, succinctly, and accurately to engineering and non-technical audiences and leadership levels.
        • Capable of maintaining a rapid pace: moves at a nice clip and enjoys having multiple projects going at once. Can change course, be scrappy and get things done on short timeframes.
