Description: This position is for an individual contributor with emerging experience in the field of Beam Control Segment (BCS) engineering for High Energy Laser (HEL) weapons systems or a closely related field, reporting to the Lockheed Martin Space Optical Payload Center of Excellence. Lockheed Martin is an industry leader in BCS design and manufacture. We successfully delivered the BCS for the megawatt-class Airborne Laser system and recently demonstrated ATHENA, a strategically transportable HEL system with tactical range that successfully shot down five unmanned aerial systems at the White Sands Missile Range in August 2017. You will be joining a world class BCS engineering organization that is applying rigorous engineering practice and advanced technologies to both strategic and tactical HEL systems. As an intermediate level engineer you will be assigned to the beam control functional team best suited to your capabilities and experience, from among: acquisition, tracking and pointing; jitter and line-of-sight control; wavefront control and adaptive optics; turret assembly design; optical bench/opto-mechanical design; safe-and-arm systems; algorithms and data processing; integration and test. From there you will be provided with opportunities to expand your scope and influence on our technical and project leadership tracks as you build your directed energy career at Lockheed Martin. Basic Qualifications: Two or more years' job experience in high energy laser beam control, or at least 3 years' job experience in fields related to high energy laser systems, including ladar/lidar/optical-communications, telescopes, astronomy, laboratory instrumentation using lasers, industrial/medical lasers, and remote sensing systems. Desired Skills: Advanced Degree (MS/Ph.D) in Engineering or Science.
Ability to develop and issue specifications to suppliers, and provide technical oversight to Lockheed Martin's beam control industry partners and suppliers in concert with our supply chain professionals, demonstrated by on-the-job experience.
Ability to quickly take on a leadership role for a beam control element, based on successful project and team-lead experience gained in industry.
Ability to integrate electronic instrumentation with optical systems, demonstrated by project and program experience
