Northrop Grumman Mission Systems - Marine Systems (NGMS-MS) is seeking a Principal/Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. The Mechanical Design Engineer will support the development of new missile launch hardware designs, hardware procurement/production, and test activities.

Responsibilities can include but not limited to:

  • Lead a group of engineers to support missile launch hardware design activities
  • Lead the design of missile launching, handling, and test equipment using solid modeling tools
  • Interface directly with customer and upper management to status activities
  • Coordinate planning and scheduling of major activities
  • Select and evaluate materials suitable for underwater systems
  • Provide test program support
  • Participate in the generation and revision of engineering drawings and models
  • Participate in the resolution of technical issues related to test hardware issuesDomestic travel will be required.

    Qualifications - External
    Basic Qualifications for Principal Mechanical Engineer
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
    • 5+ years relevant experience with Bachelor's degree (3+ with Master's degree)
    • Ability to multi-task and balance multiple projects simultaneously
    • Strong communication and organizational skills
    • Ability to work independently on projects with minimal lead or management oversight
    • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a DOD secret clearanceBasic Qualifications for Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer
      • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
      • 9 or more years relevant experience with Bachelor's degree (5+ with Master's degree)
      • Ability to balance and influence multiple competing priorities and individuals
      • Strong communication and organizational skills
      • Ability to lead a team of up to 8 engineers
      • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a DOD secret clearancePreferred Qualifications:
        • Strong background in machine design, strength of materials, and materials technology
        • Experience in developing design concepts, performing trade studies, and conducting supporting evaluations and analyses
        • Experience with CAD modeling (NX, CREO, SolidWorks, or equivalent)
        • Experience in ASME Y14.5 and ASME Y14.100 Dimensioning, Tolerancing, and Engineering Drawing Practices
        • Experience in executing projects in cross-functional matrix organization with other engineering disciplines
        • Experience in technical presentation and interfacing with customers
        • Experience in working with vendors and suppliers
        • An active DOD Secret clearance
        • Previous experience in defense or aerospace industry
        • Knowledge in EVMS Salary Range: $92,200 USD - $138,400 USD
          Salary Range 2: $114,300 USD - $178,500 USD

          Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
