Come take a look at Infinera!Infinera is searching for an Optical Engineer to join the Optical System Group in San Jose, CA for the development of Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC)-based, high speed, and advanced modulation digital coherent optical engines.The candidate should have solid foundation spanning optoelectronic devices and their contributions in performance impairment of the coherent optical MODEM, fundamental blocks in the coherent digital signal processing chain, coherent optical test and measurement methods, and software automation. -Experience with optical link design including power budgets, OSNR measurement and calculations, fiber penalties (CD, PMD, nonlinearities), and critical components specifications like laser FM-noise and ADC/DAC ENOB is essential.Job SummaryThe job responsibilities include generating experimental results that inform the design and development of PIC-based modules and digital coherent optics (DCO) subsystems from early-stage prototypes and evolving to product compliant hardware.Frequently used diagnosis capturing coherent waveforms on a high-speed oscilloscope and performing coherent signal processing on waveforms and measuring bit-error rate performance in the presence of optical noise and transmission impairments. -Through frequent interaction with the firmware and controls teams, you will assist in optimizing performance-critical aspects such as powerup self-calibration, receive acquisition, acquisition robustness, performance tuning and tradeoffs between the coherent DSP engine and the PIC-module, real-time performance monitoring, and in-service performance optimization. These algorithms will be tested during the implementation stage to ensure they are robust and operate reliably.Results will be presented internally and documented as electrical and optical performance specifications for next-generation platforms.The successful candidate will work closely with coherent DSP, Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC), high speed analog ASIC, module design, and product engineering teams to ensure quality release of new products starting from architecture and design phase all the way through manufacturing release.Job RequirementsStrong theoretical and experimental background with coherent optical modems, digital signal processing techniques and DSP chain.Fundamental understanding of coherent optical communication systems, DWDM transmission systems, photonic integrated components, electronic (integrated) circuits, and signal analysis and processingExtensive understanding of coherent communications systems, including experience with high order QAM modulation formats, channel-coding and forward error correction algorithms.Demonstrated proficiency and hands-on experience in optical communication hardware and componentsProgramming experience in Matlab, C, C++,, or similar for automation of instrument control and data acquisition.Strong problem solving, failure mode analysis, teamwork, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills are essential to succeed in this position.Ability to work with a large body of data and the necessary statistical analysis tools, and the ability to present the data and ideas to a diverse audience.Ability to work in an integrated team environment.Please note that Infinera has adopted a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy to safeguard the health and well-being of our employees.
