Senior Mechanical Engineer, Vehicle Platforms

Job Description:

The ADAS/AD team at U Power is responsible for designing and architecting the electrical, mechanical, and software systems for the next generation vehicles with fully autonomous driving capabilities, and also developing core components (including hardware, software, tools) from the ground up. Our mission is to innovate next-generation vehicle architecture and make it happen on mass-produced vehicles.
U Power is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to help us design and integrate the next generation of high-performance sensors and sensor assemblies to our skateboard platforms. In this role, you will work closely with electrical engineering, systems engineering, and external partners to develop advanced sensor integration strategies for sensors including lidar, radar, cameras, and acoustics/ultrasonics. In this role you will develop sensor interfaces such as mounts and enclosures, conduct thermal and structural analyses, and design robust, reliable, integrated assemblies for the automotive environment.
The position can be in San Jose, CA. United States.

  • Design and maintain our brand new mechanical lab from scratch
  • Develop CAD models to optimize sensor layouts, with both OEM and retrofit approaches
  • Design for manufacturability, high-volume assembly, and cost reduction
  • Analyze and confirm the structural and thermal performance of sensor and AV content
  • Sealed electronics packaging and assembly (this should also be a qualification)
  • Create and maintain 2D drawings using GD&T
  • Evaluate new and existing sensor technologies and their impact on system performance
  • Work with automotive OEMs as well as suppliers to ensure timely product delivery
    • BS in mechanical engineering or a related field
    • 5+ years of industry experience
    • Fluency with CAD software such as NX, Solidworks, CATIA, Creo, etc.
    • Experience with structural performance, dynamics, thermal, power, and data
    • Familiarity with ASME Y14.5-2009 standard
    • Strong technical communication skills
    • Ability to adapt and operate under ambiguity
    • Ability to identify and act on opportunities to improve processes and increase efficiency
      Preferred qualifications
      • MS in mechanical engineering or a related field
      • Experience working with sensors such as LiDAR, RADAR, camera, or acoustics/ultrasonics
      • Experience with sensors and proficiency with sensor key performance indicators
      • Familiarity with design for high volume production
      • Experience with sensor calibration
      • Experience in the automotive or aerospace industries
