ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESIncluding, but not limited to:
  • Performs mechanical, microstructural, and chemical testing of metallic and non-metallic components, specimens, and raw materials with internal and external specifications
  • Preparation of test samples by sectioning, mounting, grinding, polishing of specimens
  • Hardness testing: Rockwell, Vickers, or Brinell
  • Macro and micro photography
  • Basic metallurgical testing; coating thickness, case depth, etc.
  • Use of mechanical load frames to perform tensile, compression and shear testing
  • Analyze, record and report results
  • Set up, operate and clean laboratory equipment
  • Assist Operations and Engineering on various non-standard test/inspections as required
  • Preparation and testing of bonded assemblies
  • Chemical lab testing: chemical composition, viscosity, water content, etc.
  • Assist engineering in verification of properties relating to quality notifications

    COMPLEXITY OF DUTIESDuties require judgment to work independently toward general results. Must be able to effectively communicate and work with a variety of departments and personnel that are supported.
    Remote work is not available.
    CONFIDENTIAL DATAWorks with confidential data of major importance which, if disclosed, may be detrimental to the company and U.S. interest. Must be able to obtain SECRET level security clearance granted through DOD.EDUCATIONRequires a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Materials Science Engineering similar STEM degree with applicable experience in a Materials Test Lab.
    QUALIFICATIONSThis requisition may be filled at either a level 3 or a level 4
    Basic Qualifications for a Level 3:
    • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience
    • Experience with materials testing in accordance with industry and military standards
    • Extensive experience of mechanical tests such as, but not limited to, impact, tensile, compression, and shear testing
    • Foundational knowledge of metallurgical tests including sample preparation for microstructural analyses and various test methods such as, but not limited to, microhardness, chemical composition, case depth and grain structure determination
    • Experience in application and testing of adhesives and paints
    • Familiarity with basic machining tools such as band saw, horizontal lathe, and abrasive saw
    • Experience with operating load frames from manufacturers such as MTS, Instron, or Tinius & Olsen.
      Basic Qualifications for a Level 4:
      • Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience
      • All basic qualifications for a Level 3 engineer.
      • Minimum 5 years of experience operating machine shop tools such as a band saw, horizontal lathe, and abrasive saw
      • Minimum 5 years of experience with application and testing of adhesives and paints
      • Extensive experience with load frames such as MTS, Instron, or Tinius & Olsen.
      • Experience with mentoring and training others in safety and equipment usage.
      • Knowledge and experience with mechanical testing of molded rubber assemblies, preferred

        Salary Range: 92000 - 138000Salary Range 2: 114100 - 171100

        Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
