Job Title: Lead Data Center Engineer

Location : Sunnyvale, California (USA)

Job Description:

IT Professional with hands-on technical skills in Networks and Server Hardware in a complex Data Center environment. Having some knowledge of managing servers and performing complex projects is a core competency of this individual. The candidate should also have deep knowledge and experience in at least one of the following core areas: Networking, Project Management, Tool and Automation, and/or Hardware.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work with cross-functional teams on large scale data center projects and initiatives.
Provide cross data center support and identify potentially larger issues, displaying effective communication when something is identified.
Work with internal hardware teams and vendors to help resolve complex technical issues and maintain high hardware quality levels
Mentor team members to evaluate and identify better ways to resolve issues and define updates to tools and processes.
Provide guidance and mentoring to a technical team and be the go-to technical resource for management.
Monitor data center infrastructure for alarms and error messages
Manage aspects of the data center electrical systems (ATS, UPS, Generators, transformers, wiring, etc.), and protect plant integrity.
Manage vendors to ensure installed systems are maintained and performing properly.
Maintain all compliance controlled documents for the data center.
Run as onsite point for Data Center Operations on all major escalations.
Provision new equipment including installing hardware, network cables and power cables.
Produce reports using tools like Visio, AutoCAD, and Excel.
Escort vendors or customers into the data center.
Perform Smart Hands Tasks.
Document and write Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for departmental use.
Maintain an organized, professional, and focused attitude in a team-based environment.
Participate in an on-call rotation.

Required Skills and Competencies:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology is preferred.
Minimum 5 years of infrastructure or related experience in a data center environment
Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure.
Knowledge of the interdependencies of data center functions and technologies.
Experience managing multiple projects within the same time schedule.
Knowledge of enterprise level networking and storage equipment installs.
Proven communication skills.
Experience in providing technical guidance to external vendors.
Possess the ability to learn quickly and able to manage tasks with little supervision.
Ability to understand and enforce contractual obligations, and managing operational aspects of third party agreements.
Experience managing data center infrastructure in a virtualized environment.
Knowledge of electricity, monitoring and HVAC systems.
Deep understanding of change management and incident management processes.
Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interact with internal/external clients/vendors.
Working knowledge of cabling techniques.
